Trigger Point Dry Needling

What is it?

Trigger point dry needling involves the use of very fine, sterile acupuncture-style needles to release tight muscle knots which are known as trigger points. This technique elicits a local twitch response which directly impacts the neuromuscular system affecting the tight muscle and aids in restoring normal function. The process is quick and relatively painless.

How it helps

✔ Enhances neuromuscular connection
✔ Improved blood flow through micro-tears
✔ Reduces muscle tension

Beneficial for:

  • Tension Headaches

  • Low Back Pain

  • Tendonitis

Who is it for?

Dry needling is a technique that can be used on everyone if required. However, there are many reasons we will not use this technique with certain individuals such as needle phobias, metal allergies and bleeding disorders to name a few. If you are not comfortable with dry needling, we get get similar outcomes using other techniques in most cases.

Is it Painful?

You will feel a slight ‘prick’ as the needle is inserted then may feel a brief twitch or mild spasm sensation when the needle hits a trigger point. This response is usually quick and followed by a feeling of release. Some people may experience mild post-treatment soreness for 24–48 hours, similar to what you’d feel after a workout. Your osteopath will explain what to expect and ensure you feel comfortable at all times.
