Soft tissue massage
What is it?
Soft tissue massage involves hands-on manipulation of the body’s soft tissues such as muscles, tendons, and fascia to help relieve tension, improve circulation and support the healing process. It is one of the most commonly used techniques here at Ripple Osteopathy, as we find most people respond very well to it. Soft tissue massage can be tailored to suit your specific needs and comfort level, whether you're recovering from an injury or simply feeling tight and tense from daily life and stress.
There are a variety of techniques used within soft tissue massage, including:
Effleurage – smooth, gliding strokes to warm up the tissues and improve blood flow
Friction – deeper circular movements to break down tight or stuck areas
Percussion – rhythmic tapping or drumming to stimulate the muscles
Compression – firm, sustained pressure to reduce muscle tension
How it helps
✔ Reduces muscle tightness and tension
✔ Improves blood flow and lymphatic drainage
✔ Helps alleviate pain and discomfort
Beneficial for:
Muscle Tension
Muscle Strains
Tendonitis/Bursitis
Is it painful?
Generally, soft tissue massage is not painful. Some areas may feel tender, especially if the muscles are tight or sore but your comfort is always our priority. We'll check in with you throughout the session to ensure the pressure feels right and you're as relaxed as possible.
Who is it for?
Soft tissue massage is suitable for just about anyone. Whether you're an athlete, a desk worker, a tradie or simply someone feeling the effects of stress and tension, this technique can be adapted to meet your needs.
